America's Heritage and Heroes - Flight 93 Memorial, Johnstown Flood Museum, Quecreek Mine Rescue Site & more...

3 day/ 2 night tour

Day 1 
Arrive in the beautiful Laurel Highlands and the Ramada Ligonier our home for the next two nights.  Here we will be greeted with a red carpet roll-out and welcome reception upon arrival.  For tonight's dinner, we will remain at the hotel for our unique Colonial buffet with period entertainment and costumed servers.

Day 2 
We will start the day with a full breakfast buffet before traveling to the Somerset Historical Center where the story of rural Pennsylvania life, agriculture, and progress is portrayed.  Tour includes 1773 log cabin, cider press demonstration, and maple sugar camp.  Next we will travel to the Johnstown Flood Museum where a tour and award-winning documentary film demonstrate the events of this 1889 catastrophic flood, one of the worst in American history.  Afterwards lunch at the Johnstown Brewery before heading back to charming downtown Ligonier for some free time for shopping in the more than 60 unique specialty shops and antique stores located throughout town.  Tonight, it's off to the Rockwood Mill Shoppes and Opera House for dinner theater with a Patriotic themed show.

Day 3 
After a full breakfast buffet, we will make our way to Shanksville to visit the Flight 93 Memorial followed by a visit to the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel.  Then we will travel to the Quecreek Mine Rescue site where nine trapped miners were miraculously rescued after the Quecreek mining accident in July 2002.  Here we will visit the Quecreek Memorial where the Arnold family will tell this incredible story that occurred on their farm.  Afterwards a lunch stop at the Inn at Georgian Place followed by a tour of this elegant 22 room turn of the century mansion restored to its original grandeur before departing for home.

A Dazzling Ligonier Christmas

Day 1
We will arrive in the Laurel Highlands and charming historic Ligonier where the group can enjoy free time for shopping and lunch "on their own" before heading to the Festival of Lights.  Here the group will walk through this indoor display of over 50 decorated trees and wreaths located inside the library gallery.  Next the group will gather at the Ligonier Theater for a Musical Holiday Revue by the Valley Players.  Today's show will have you singing in your seat with traditional and non-traditional tunes of Christmas past and present.  Afterwards we will travel one block to the Ramada Ligonier our home for the night.  Here we will be greeted with a red-carpet roll-out and welcome reception upon arrival followed by a delicious Colonial Christmas dinner complete with Colonial costumed servers.  Lastly, we depart for the Westmoreland Fairgrounds to see Overly's Country Christmas, one of America's largest light displays.  After our ride through the lights, the group can enjoy the bonfire, live nativity, and gift shops.

Day 2
Today we start the day with a full breakfast buffet at the hotel before departing for the Saint Vincent Gristmill where the group will enjoy a guided tour of the mill.  In continuous operation since 1854, the gristmill provides flour and other grain products milled by Benedictine monks.  Here the group can see the mill, museum, and purchase a variety of fresh breads and flour products at the general store.  Next the group will travel to the Compass Inn Museum for a Christmas Candlelight tour.  Nearly 100 lit candles, three open fireplaces, and a museum store create a festive holiday spirit.  Our last stop includes a luncheon and tour of the Inn at Georgian Place.  This elegant 22 room turn of the century mansion has been restored to its original grandeur and beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Pittsburgh & the Laurel Highlands
3 days / 2 nights
Available mid June - mid October 2008

Day 1 
We arrive in the beautiful Laurel Highlands of southwestern PA where we will begin with a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece, Fallingwater. This house, built in 1935, is dramatically cantilevered over a mountain waterfall and is considered one of the most important examples of modern architecture today.   Next we will travel to Ligonier where the group will check into the Ramada Historic Ligonier, our home for the next two nights.  Upon arrival, we will be greeted with a red-carpet roll-out and welcome reception.  For dinner tonight, we will remain at the hotel where we will enjoy an authentic Colonial Buffet complete with costumed servers and Colonial entertainment.

Day 2
We will start the day with a delicious breakfast buffet at the hotel before departing for the Compass Inn Museum where we will tour this authentically restored 1799 stagecoach stop.  Here costumed docents tell the story of transportation and life during this time using etymology (word and phrase origins).  Our tour includes inn, cookhouse, barn, blacksmith shop, and a quick stop at the gift shop.  Next we will travel to the Johnstown Flood Museum where one of the most shocking floods in American history is recreated.  A guided tour and award-winning documentary film will demonstrate the events of this 1889 catastrophic flood.  Afterwards, we will travel back to Ligonier where the group can enjoy lunch on their own in one of the many unique restaurants and cafés that Ligonier has to offer followed by free time to explore the numerous specialty shops and antique stores located throughout our charming historic district.  For dinner tonight we will head to the Green Gables Restaurant and Mountain Playhouse for dinner and a theater performance on beautiful Lake Stoughton.

Day 3 
After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the beautiful "steel city" of Pittsburgh where we will first stop at Station Square.  Here you will have free time to visit the unique shops and "dancing fountains" before boarding the Just Ducky amphibious land/water vehicles for a site seeing tour of Pittsburgh.  Afterwards the group will enjoy a delicious family style Italian luncheon at Buca di Beppo restaurant at Station Square before departing for home.

Day 1 
We will arrive in the Laurel Highlands and Fallingwater for a guided tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's "masterpiece over the falls".  This house, built in 1935, is dramatically cantilevered over a mountain waterfall and is considered one of the most important examples of modern architecture today.  A must see in the area!   Next the group will experience the hometown feel of yesteryear with a visit to the Old General Store and Country Pie Shoppe, featuring old fashioned candy and goods, old time remedies, and a home-style bakery.  A mini pie is also included.  Afterwards we'll enjoy a wine tasting at Stone Villa Winery before departing for the Ramada Ligonier, our home for the night.  Upon arrival we will enjoy a red carpet roll-out and welcome reception. Day 2
Enjoy a delicious full breakfast buffet at the hotel before departing for Fort Ligonier.  Journey back in time two centuries to this reconstructed fort from the French and Indian War featuring an extensive collection of fine arts & artifacts, including two rare artifacts from George Washington.  No trip to Ligonier is complete without visiting Main Street and the numerous specialty shops throughout town.  Therefore we'll enjoy free time to explore charming historic Ligonier.  Afterwards, the group will gather for a unique interactive culinary experience where the group will prepare their own delightful gourmet luncheon in a "cooking show" style setting.  Next we will travel a short distance to the Compass Inn Museum.  At this authentically restored 1799 stagecoach stop, costumed docents tell the story of transportation and life during the early 1800's.  The tour includes inn, cookhouse, barn, blacksmith shop, and a quick stop at the gift shop.

Arrive in the beautiful Laurel Highlands where the group will begin with lunch "on their own" at Fallingwater Café followed by a tour of Fallingwater, the first Frank Lloyd Wright home on our tour.  This "masterpiece over the falls", built in 1935, is dramatically cantilevered over a mountain waterfall and is considered one of the most important examples of modern architecture today.  Next we travel to nearby Kentuck Knob, the second Wright design on our tour.  This unique home which rises high from a mountainside, offers breathtaking views, a natural wooded landscape, and a contemporary sculpture garden.  Next the group will travel to the Ramada in charming historic Ligonier for a welcome reception and dinner at the hotel. 
*if looking for a theater option - a comedy murder mystery show may be added.

Day 2
We will start the day with a delicious breakfast buffet at the hotel before departing for the Compass Inn Museum.  At this authentically restored 1799 stagecoach stop, costumed docents tell the story of transportation and life during this time using etymology (humorous word and phrase origins).  The tour includes inn, cookhouse, barn, blacksmith shop, and a quick stop at the gift shop.   No trip to Ligonier is complete without visiting Main Street and enjoying free time to explore the numerous specialty shops and stores throughout town.  Afterwards, the group will gather at a local Ligonier restaurant for a unique culinary experience where the group will help prepare their own delightful gourmet luncheon before traveling to the Duncan House the newest Frank Lloyd Wright home to the area.  This 1957 Usonian home was dismantled and transported from Lisle, Illinois to the Laurel Highlands where it was reconstructed.  Next we'll travel to nearby Stone Villa Winery for a wine tasting before enjoying a delicious chef prepared dinner at the Ligonier Country Club.

Day 3
We will begin our last day again with a breakfast buffet at the hotel before heading for an historic float trip down a lazy portion of Youghiogheny River where our guide from Wilderness Voyageurs will tell the history of the river during the trip.  Afterwards a stop along the river for a deluxe picnic luncheon before departing for home.
