The All-American Paintball Park is the world's largest indoor paintball facility. Boasting two full size regulation inflatable fields on plush Astroturf, the park offers players the opportunity to participate in the fastest growing extreme sport. The facility offers full rental packages and specializes in catering towards groups of all sizes. Not only does the park have an indoor facility, but it also has two outdoor paintball fields, an X-box room available to all customers, a fully stocked pro-shop and a party room accessible to all groups. Eager to compete with the Eric Canal, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania built its Main Line of Public Works, stretching from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. The Allegheny Mountain proved to be a barrier to the canal section of the Main Line. This barrier was solved by building one of the most unique railroads in American history...and the first to conquer the Alleghenies.

At the park's Visitor Center, exhibits and the film share the personal and technical sides of the Portage Railroad. Atop the Inclined Plane #6 of the railroad, guests can visit a replica of the Engine House that once stood there. Visitors can observe the restored Lemon House tavern, and experience a peice of 1840's American and Pennsylvanian history. A walk through the woods along railroad's trace is exhilarating.

A crucial turning point in Pontiac's War, Bushy Run Battlefield is the site of Colonel Henry Bouquet's victory of the Native Americans in 1763. Learn about the battle that saved Fort Pitt from capture, effectively ended Pontiac's War, and opened up lands west of the Allegheny Mountains to European settlement. Enjoy the Visitor Center and interactive museum, gift shop and bookstore, three miles of hiking trails, guided or self-guided walking tours of the battlefield, and picnic and recreational areas. School and group tours are available by phone reservation. Special events include the Ohio County Conference in March, in August join us for the Battle Reenactment and the Haunted Hayride in October.

The Coal and Coke Heritage Center captures and preserves the history and heritage of the coal and coke industries in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Compass Inn Museum is an authentically restored 1799-stagecoach stop. It served as a popular Inn for stagecoach travelers on the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh Turnpike during the first half of the 19th century. The original Inn was constructed of logs, and a stone wing was added in 1820. The Inn has been completely restored and furnished with an extensive collection of period pieces. Enjoy “history with a smile” at the Compass Inn Museum. The informative and entertaining tour, by costumed docents, tells the story of transportation and life in the early 1800s, while relaying a fun dose of word and phrase origins related to our past. Flight 93 Memorial Chapel is a refurbished parish church dedicated to the honor and glory of God and to the Heroes of Flight 93 and to the innocents who perished on September 11, 2001. The Chapel is recognized to be the first memorial to Flight 93 and was completely reconstructed in ten days, in time for the first anniversary of September 11.

The Chapel is a place of refuge and prayer. The 31,000 pound marble obelisk Flight 93 Crew Monument dedicated to the Crew of Flight 93 is located in the Heroes Garden. The meditation room displays the portraits and biographies of the Forty Heroes.

Programs are availble for school and youth groups, churgh groups and tour groups. When visiting Flight 93 inmpact site, be sure to include the Chapel as part of your journey.

On September 11, 2001, the passengers and crew of Flight 93 courageously gave their lives thwarting a planned attack on our Nation's Capital. Flight 93 National Memorial project partners have been working to plan, design and develop the permanent memorial.

Visit the site of young George Washington's first military engagement and the battle that marks the beginning of the French and Indian War. The Battle at Fort Necessity was also Washington's only surrender. The French and Indian War would lead to the first global war and set the stage for the American Revolution. Also tour a furnished historic tavern museum, the Mt. Washington Tavern (circa 1830's). There learn of life along the National Road, America's first federally built highway and what it was like to travel by stagecoach. Fallingwater®, one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most widely acclaimed works, was designed in 1935 for the family of Pittsburgh department store owner Edgar J. Kaufmann. Dramatically cantilevered over a waterfall, the house, perhaps better than any single work exemplifies Wright’s concept of organic architecture: the harmonious union of art and nature. Named one of “50 places of a lifetime” by National Geographic Traveler the house is open for tours daily except Wednesdays from mid-March through Thanksgiving weekend. Also open Friday, Saturday and Sunday in December and the week between Christmas and New Year’s. The Visitors Center includes Museum Store, exhibitions and Café which offers a variety of group dining options. Interactive programs are available for students groups. Groups should allow a minimum of two hours.

Friendship Hill preserves the country estate of Albert Gallatin. A Swiss immigrant who served his adopted country in public and private life for nearly seven decades. Gallatin made significant contributions to our young republic in the fields of finance, politics, diplomacy and scholarship. He is best known for serving as Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison (1801-1813). Nine furnished rooms on two floors help interpret Gallatin's life and accomplishments. The gazebo offers wonderful views of the Monongahela River. The Visitor Center has a four-minute video and museum shop.

Visit yesteryear's 1835 "Beacon” and relive the pioneers' journey. Petersburg, Gate 1, is the only original, hand-cut native stone tollhouse still standing along the first federally funded highway. The Cumberland Road passed from federal authorities to states’ becoming the nation's first toll road. Dreams for a better life, pioneers with covered wagons and farm animals entered the tollgate during the great westward emigration. As the Industrial Revolution came, railroad travel was faster and cheaper, leaving the “national road” abandoned. Today, we are still able to experience this “Beacon” of our past because the Daughters of the American Revolution Great Crossings Chapter’s efforts to purchase the tollhouse, delivering it from planned demolition. The Petersburg Tollhouse was placed on the National Registrar of Historical Places in 1976.

The Heritage Discovery Center features three major attractions! Founded in 1773, Hanna's Town is where English courts were first held west of the Allegheny Mountains. Embroiled in the western campaigns against the British and their Native American allies during the Revolutionary War, Hanna's Town was attacked and burned July 13, 1782 by a raiding party in one of the final battles of war.

Guided tours include the reconstructed fort, courthouse/tavern, jail, a late 18th century Conestoga wagon, and the 1802 Klingensmith House. Visitors learn about justice and life along the frontier of western Pennsylvania and how the stuggles, decisions and events here impacted the nation during the American Revolution. Groups of 20 or more can arrange to see a reenactment of actual court case(s) heard at Hanna's Town between 1773 and 1786.

Discover the shocking story of the 1889 Johnstown flood, in which 2,209 people died and a prospering city became a wasteland. Exhibits, artifacts, multimedia and an Academy Award-winning documentary tell the amazing story of the disaster, including the town’s incredible recovery. An original “Oklahoma House,” an early example of prefabricated housing used to shelter survivors, is included. Other exhibits focus on the role of Clara Barton and the American Red Cross in the recovery effort, depictions of the flood in popular culture, and much more. Johnstown Flood National Memorial shares the story of one of the worst disasters in American history...a disaster in where 2,209 persons died. At the Visitor Center, guests can view a film that chillingly recreates the events of May 31, 1889 and allows the visitor to make an emotional connection with the victims and survivors.

Visitors can also walk atop the ruins of the South Fork Dam, where the flood started, and can walk down a trail into the lakebed of Lake Conemaugh, at the time one of the largest human-made lakes in the United States.

Visitors can also observe the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club (seasonally and staff-permitting) and view the building once visitied by Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick and Andrew Mellon.

Synonymous with the floods of Johnstown is the Johnstown Inclined Plane. Constructed after the first flood on May 31, 1889, the Incline was built to develop the higher grounds residentially. When floodwaters swept through the Conemaugh and Stonycreek valleys on March 17, 1936 and again on July 20, 1977, it was the Incline that carried men, women, and children to safety. Today, it serves as the historic focal point of our area. Thousands of national and international travelers have experienced the Incline, billed by the Guinness Book of Records as "The Steepest Vehicular Inclined Plane in the World." In addition to its panoramic view of the valleys, the Inclined Plane features a restaurant, ice cream shoppe, visitor’s center, and a gift shop. Experience the history first hand and enjoy the ride!

The Ligonier Valley Rail Road Museum is a small Museum located in an original station of the LVRR near Idlewild Park. The station was built around 1896 and the Ligonier Valley Rail Road Association raised funds to restore the station and open it as a Museum. The Museum has displays of artifacts related primarily to the Ligonier Valley Rail Road, some for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Pittsburgh, Westmoreland and Somerset Railroad. The artifacts consist of lanterns, locks and keys, photographs, passes, signs, tickets, the original ticket dispenser, "yard" tools and many more items. Also located on the property is an original Pennsylvania Railroad "Bobber Caboose" built in 1905 and a twin of the caboose operated by the Ligonier Valley Rail Road. Now an official PA State Historical site, this is the location where, in July 2002, nine miners were rescued from 240 feet beneath the earth in a never before attempted effort. Scheduled groups hear the story of the miraculous events which took place in order to bring about the "Miracle at Dormel Farms".

A Monument for Life honors the team of rescue workers who pulled together, the undying determination of the nine miners, and honors all miners with a 7-foot bronze miner statue.

See the actual rescue capsule, broken drill bit, and other artifacts related to this successful rescue. Thousands of travelers have been truly inspired by their visit here. A NEW Visitor Center is scheduled to open in 2009.

Plan a visit to Saint Vincent Gristmill, General Store, Coffeehouse, and Museum. Since 1854, Benedictine monks have been milling flour and grains in the historic gristmill built by Saint Vincent founder Boniface Wimmer. At the General Store visitors can buy flour ground by present-day monks and bread made by a local bakery using the famous Saint Vincent bread recipe. At the museum view a video of the milling process. Enjoy fresh brewed hot and cold drinks in the downstairs Coffeehouse. General Store is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. The Springs Museum, located on Route 669 in the tiny village of Springs, Somerset County, depicts the life of the early settlers of the Cassleman Valley. Springs is the highest unincorporated village in Pennsylvania and lies at the foot of the Negro Mountain, whose summit is Mt. Davis, the highest point in Pennsylvania.

The Cassleman Valley was setttled between 1750 and 1774. The Museum is a rich treasure store of history, folklore, and traditions which is displayed in several buildings on the grounds of the Springs Historical Society. The labors, pleasures, and treasures of home, shop, farm, as well as the trades of the settlers are represented in artifacts, documents, and items of apparel from the eighteenth century through 20th century.

West Overton Museums, located in Scottdale, is the only pre-Civil War Village completely in-tact in Pennsylvania. The birthplace of coal and coke magnate, Henry Clay also features the historic Mennonite homestead of Abraham Overholt. It includes the original distillery building where Old Farm Pure Rye Whiskey was produced. West Overton is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A complete tour of West Overton embraces a walking tour of the village, admission to the Distillery building which now serves as a museum, a viewing of the video "Pillars of Fire" which highlights the coal and coke process and its heritage in southwestern Pennsylvania. In addition, a guided tour of the historic homestead which includes the summer kitchen, carriage house, the gardens and the springhouse, which was the birthplace of Henry Clay Frick. Tour can be customized to your itinerary timeline. Normal hours of operation are 12-6 on Friday & Saturday and 1-5 on Sunday May-October. Other times are available for group tours by appointment.

The Geyer Performing Arts Center is a 100+ year old opera house constructed by Andrew Geyer and listed on The National Register of Historic Places. In 1912, Andrew Geyer transferred ownership to Scottdale Theatre Company who changed the name to the Strand Theatre. In 1940, John C. Bixler purchased the property and used it as a movie theatre until 1969. In 1987, Scottdale Showtime, a non profit corporation purchased the theatre and began renovations. In early 2006, Scottdale Showtime Inc. changed the name to The Geyer Performing Arts Center.

It has been renovated and updated to host live theatre companies. We produce amateur/community theatre, concerts, and dinner theatre, in addition to a wide range of educational programs. This 350-seat theatre includes a second floor hospitality suite suitable for small parties and receptions.

The historic Palace Theatre presents outstanding live entertainment year round, including nationally known performers such as Bill Crosby, Tom Jones, STOMP, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Rockapella, musical theatre and dance, appealing to all interests and age groups.

Tours of the beautifully restored vaudeville era theatre are also offered and can be customized to include backstage tours when performances are not scheduled. Special arrangements can be made for your group to enjoy a snack or lunch on stage and be treated like the "stars of the show".

On Thursday evenings during the summer months, you are invited to enjoy "Thank Goodness Its Summer" free concerts under the stars in our courtyard for a relaxing conclusion to a day of touring the beautiful Laurel Highlands.

Saint Vincent Theatre is a professional Equity theatre celebrating its 42nd year that presents quality summer productions in the comfortable, spacious, and air-conditioned Robert S. Carey Performing Arts Center on the campus of Saint Vincent College, U.S. Route 30 East, Latrobe during June, July and August. An after-the-show party on the Carey Center Terrace is offered after all performances, weather permitting, where snacks, sandwiches and beverages are served by students. The Ligonier Theater is a 283-seat art deco theater and home to the Valley Players of Ligonier, a non-profit community theater organization, which presents a year-round schedule of shows and events. Our Regular Season is presented by the Valley Players ‘Spotlights’ and our Children’s Season is presented by the Valley Players ‘Footlights.’ Throughout the year, we produce live concerts that appeal to all generations. We show second run movies on the weekends and in December, produce our popular holiday show, A Ligonier Christmas, a blend of traditional and sacred music.
